Forget-Me-Not

Developing Soul Relationships
Through Dreams and Memory

According to an ancient legend, a knight about to get married, dressed in his armor, was taking a ride along a river with his fiancée. His fiancée saw an extremely beautiful bunch of blue flowers rocking on the waves, and asked her paramour to pick them up. As he reached over to get them, the knight slipped and fell into the river.

The heavy armor hindered him from swimming and he started sinking into the water, but not before throwing her the blue flowers and shouting: "Don't forget me!" This beautiful flower came to be known as Forget-Me-Not, associated in the language of flowers with true love - the love that never dies.

As described by Patricia Kaminski & Richard Katz, the Forget-Me-Not (Myosotis silvatica) flower essence "is an important essence to be taken into consideration after the initial stage of the mourning feeling caused by a dear relative's death; it can also be very useful to one who never fully resolved the isolation and abandonment issues after the death of an important family member, or a friend, during childhood." (Flower Essence Repertory).

I started including this essence with clients suffering from just such issues, and the results were very satisfactory for all of those who used it . What I realized was that Forget-me-not gives comfort through dreams by opening direct or indirect contact with these beings in another dimension. It comforts because we realize the true, immortal, and spiritual human nature through these contacts.

As an example, a woman consulted me who had lost her mother a few months earlier and couldn't recover from the related pain. They'd lived in the same building and the connection between them had been very intense. She found herself depressed and crying endlessly. When I included Forget-Me-Not in her formula, this woman had the following dream:

She was walking in a beautiful garden and she came upon one of her aunts, who had passed away long ago, sitting on a bench. She asked her aunt what she was doing there. Her aunt answered that she was waiting for "your mother, who isn't ready yet to follow me here." Afterwards, about a month after this first dream, she had another one in which she saw both her mother and her aunt walking together.

These episodes changed her attitude towards the loss of her mother completely. She "knew" now that her mother was fine, and that she had someone to take care of her. Although she still missed her mother in her daily life, she returned to her regular activities and to the pleasure of being with her husband, children, and grandchildren.

Another client came to me regretting the fact that her mother, already deceased, hadn't been able to participate in or follow her professional development. She often felt a strong desire to share this with her. I added Forget-me-not to her formula and she told me the following dream a month later:

She was on a bus talking to her mother. While they were talking, the scene changed itself and she could see herself happy and showing her mother all the rooms in her house and in her office. When the bus got to the office, she said good-bye to her mother, "Bye, mom, I can't go with you because I have a lot of work to do."

After having this dream, my client started to "feel" her mother's presence in her life, thereby soothing her heart.

Indispensable when it comes to affective losses, Forget-Me-Not is also one of the fundamental essences in therapeutic work with clients searching for spiritual development.

Besides favoring dreams and memory on a physical level, Forget-me-not reinforces the remembrance of our true spiritual nature through the connection with our guides, and members of our human family, in another dimension.

As illustrated in the verses of a song composed for the soundtrack of the motion picture Titanic, "My Heart Will Go On," this wonderful flower essence has come to show us that we're all spiritual beings in a terrestrial journey.

My Heart Will Go On

(James Horner & Will Jennings)

Every night in my dreams I see you,
I feel you.
That is how I know you go on.
Far across the distance and spaces between us,
You have come to show you go on.
Near, far, wherever you are,
I believe that the heart does go on.
Once more, you open the door
And you're here in my heart,
And my heart will go on and on.

Love can touch us one time
and last for a lifetime,
And never let go till we're gone.
Love was when I loved you,
one true time I hold to.
In my life we'll always go on.
Near, far, wherever you are,
You are here, there's nothing I fear.

And I know that my heart will go on.
We'll stay forever this way.
You are safe in my heart.
And my heart will go on and on.
