Through the Flowers We are Marching On

The impact of our last visit to the Sichuan earthquake site is amazing!

Within two months of our visit, a book was published by the “Peoples Literature Publisher Inc.” The author is the dean of the “Academy for the Training of Public Service Officers of Mian Yang County.” He was our host for our relief work operation during February of 2009.

In his book, he interviewed nine local officers who survived from the most heavily hit earthquake area. The descriptions of what happened at the moment of 2:28 PM, May 12, 2008, are vivid and shocking, yet those leaders came up with immediate responses. Their instant problem-solving instructions were so amazing.

At the time, none of them were with their families. Yet, they stood firmly and worked day and night. When the news arrived one by one about their children and/or spouses, or parents buried under the rubble, none of them shed any tears.

When my team visited them ten months after the earthquake, they still behaved in the same way as I described in my report. Yet, after we demonstrated the use of Flower Essence Therapy and delivered to each individual the actual product formula from the Flourish group of flower essence formulas (donated by FES), most of the participants reported the next day that they had shed tears and were able to sleep all night through.

This was the very reason that the author of the book decided to arrange the trip for us to visit the most intense quake area in order to serve five top officials who could not leave the area. This further proved that the host organization fully recognized the effectiveness of Flower Essence Therapy.

In fact, in the new book there are nine chapters; at the end of the ninth chapter, the author included a picture of me serving one of the participants and entitled that chapter, “ Through the Flowers, We Are Marching On .”  (Read the chapter here .)

They are in preparation for our next visit when I plan to help them to establish more permanent status for Training and Service to deliver Flower Essence Therapy for the long term trauma of the earthquake survivors.

None of the expert psychologists and psychiatrists could imagine the real depth of the trauma and the dilemma those survivors are facing. We are translating the last chapter of the book into English in order to share with you the amazing power of the flower essences. It is a story about “Forget-Me-Not.” This writing also reflected the importance of using the Affirm a Flower Cards .

In my next step, I have to bring my 30 Taiwan-trained volunteers to act as “trainers” to guide the local staff in different stations.

I consider that this part of my work (Flower Essence Therapy), should be the final assignment for my earth life. (smile)

Book excerpt: Through the Flowers We are Marching On

Epilogue

February 26th 2009, in the lunar calendar, is the second day of the second month of the Year of the Ox. In Chinese legend, this special day is said to be “when the dragon raises its head,” representing all creation coming to life again and everything will start all over. On this day, we went back to Bei-Chuan again. An 83-year old granny from Taiwan, glowing with health and radiating vitality, and a 33-year old young fellow in the prime of his life were about to meet each other in the “flower shrubs.”

Old granny brought with her over 140 kinds of different flowers, strode across half a century, and looked forward to communicating with the young fellow in the form of “flower messages” as well as corresponding through “flower spirit.”

This magical granny came across the wide world of flowers twelve years ago, like a long-lost fairy, she felt great affinity and then took companion with them ever since. The way she sees, flowers have not only their exterior appearance but send messages as well. “Flowers are mystical, beautiful and full of life, they can be introduced in poem, in painting, in medicine, and can even go step by step with our spiritual being,” she said. “Flower messages are the messages from Heaven; with the help of flower messages, you can resonate with the essence of the Great Nature.” Let’s take a look at the “image” as well as the “message” that these flowers present and were brought by this flower fairy (affirmations text by Patricia Kaminski):

Jiu Tsuei is the chief secretary of the Foundation for East-West Medicine and Director of the Chinese Acupuncture and Medicine Science Foundation in Taiwan. She was the founder and first director of the Institute of Traditional Medicine at the National Yang-Ming University in Taiwan. She also is emeritus professor in the School of Public Health at the University of Hawaii, USA.

Professor Tsuei can be called a “wonder lady.” She was born on Mainland China in its most turbulent era. Her hometown is in Yan-Tai of Shan-Dong Province. Most of her years as a youngster were spent in the turmoil of war. She completed her education in medicine in Taiwan, and went to America for further education. Later on, she became an internationally prestigious gynecologist. She was a legend among the field of medical science in Taiwan. She was known as the “Mother of Alternative Medicine.” As a highly distinguished gynecologist, she had been trained in orthodox Western medicine, however, she never hesitated to pick up those glamorous views of Eastern medicine along her way.” Shau-Wen Lin, “The Story of Julia J. Tsuei—Bridging over Millennium,” 2002. She considers Flower Essence Therapy, to be the one that integrates the essences of both Eastern and Western medicine, “the connecting bridge of body, mind and soul,” and hence has been vigorously involved in the efforts to disseminate and make it known to the public for the past decade.

Flower Essence Therapy is said to be a traditional remedy that is most close to modern medicine in the Western world. The use of flower remedies emerged in 1930 when Dr. Edward Bach of England began to develop its philosophy and usage. Among holistic (body-mind-spirit) healing approaches, flower essence remedies are especially helpful for treating mental and emotional problems. Flower essences are made from blossoms of plants prepared through specific extract procedures. Furthermore, it can be made into a different energy level of compound prescriptions called “flower information” through vibration and dilution to fit various emotional imbalances. The use of flower essence therapy is to help adjust and regain the balance of human body and soul, also, to be in concordance with the environment. It is one of the emotional treatment methods in the field of bio-energetic information medicine.

After the 512 Earthquake, in the face of the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in the disaster area, Professor Tsuei distinguished five stages that people usually went through when and after they came across natural disaster: shock , grief , fear , depression , and recovery . In accordance with these five psychological stages, she brought alternate prescriptions, each containing various kinds of flower essences, to best suit those stages of adjustment. For instance, those nine flower images introduced in the beginning of this chapter are the ingredients of the first prescription, which can be used at the first stage, the “post-trauma induced by extreme shock, its recovery and psychological rehabilitation.”

Everything is ready! “Flower fairy” Tsuei was eager to come to the disaster area. It happened that we were just about to have a training program for our cadre members on crisis management. Through the introduction of Professor Feng, National Taiwan University, the 83-year-old Professor Tsuei led her “Tsuei Group” and came to Mian-Yang on February 23rd, 2009, just in time for the last block sessions of the program. Other than Professor Tsuei herself, the “Tsuei Group” consisted of Professor Lin-Ching Xia, who is Director of the Psychology Department of Fu-Jen University, one physician, and two pharmacists.

In the afternoon of February 23rd, there were 140 members of the training program who attended the course yet dubiously listened to Professor Tsuei lecture on the topic of “flower essence and flower information.” After the lecture, there were over 100 of them who participated in the FET that followed and had a first-hand experience.

Although at the age of 83, Professor Tsuei was very hale and hearty, always in high spirits, and looked like someone in her sixties at the most. First, Professor Tsuei used an Electro-Dermal Screening Device (EDSD) to measure each member and select the most needed flower essence prescription for that person. Then, she used the magical Bi-Digital O-ring Test (BDORT) to further verify the previous result. When she, like a flower fairy, handed over the “flower message” to the participant, everyone was amazed.

Here’s the flower message that Professor Tsuei presented to a lady from Bei-Chuan:

It took the lady a long while to harness her resolve before sitting in front of Professor Tsuei. Through a relatively short test, the flower essence best suited for her was selected. It was “Forget-Me-Not.” In my presence and that of others, Professor Tsuei interpreted the “flower message” to her. She said, “You are strolling back and forth between your loved ones in Heaven and on Earth, filled with mixed feelings. You want to start a new life, but yet, you cannot let go of your love for the one in Heaven. As a matter of fact, human beings are a combination of body, mind, and soul. As material is indestructible, so is your soul. Your deceased partner did not just vanish, but rather started a new life in Heaven. You used to enact a play together in this life, now that he has completed his earthly duty, you have to move on until your body leaves the world, take a break in Heaven, and wait for the other performance. Therefore, you don’t need to be so sad. Even if it were for this old partner’s sake, you would have to play your present role well, for he will watch you from Heaven, and cheer for you.”

Is this what Professor Tsuei was talking about, the “connection” between body, mind, and soul? It’s magnificent! Professor Tsuei didn’t know this lady, but I actually know a little about her story. The “flower message” that Professor Tsuei had interpreted to this lady astonishingly resembled what happened to her life. She lost her former husband in the Earthquake, and now she is remarried to a man who had the same experience, and they rebuilt a family. They get along well, but her son who is away in college often called her and said that he missed his dad. It became a heavy burden, like an entangled knot in her heart. As Professor Tsuei spelled it out, although she still looked restrained, the tears in her eyes were nevertheless hard to conceal.

She got the Grief Relief prescription bottle from the “flower fairy,” which contained seven kinds of flowers including Explorer’s Gentian and so on. Its effects are to receive comfort when feeling sad, and to commune with oneself when feeling hurt.

That evening, Professor Tsuei and Professor Xia explained to me the results of their tests with the participants of the course in the afternoon.

“As a whole, their energy levels were extraordinarily high. Usually, it is quite all right if a person reaches 70, but these people got 80 and more, the highest one even got 97. However, their emotional values were pretty low, only 40+, some are even lower than that,” said Professor Tsuei.

“What does that mean?” I asked.

“They are hanging in there. They need to focus on their jobs and complete them, and at the same time, they need to act like they’re really tough and strong, for once they’re crushed, they can never be put together again. It can easily be physical or mental break down; for the worst, it’ll be depression or suicide,” Professor Tsuei said affirmatively.

Out of curiosity, I asked “How did you know that from the test?”

“Your body won’t lie. Even if one could fool oneself in the head, the body wouldn’t tell a lie. The O-Ring Test I did for them had shown this point,” Professor Tsuei said.

That’s right! In the afternoon, this magical test had not only amazed those participants but also gave evidence to what she had just said. It was pretty easy how Professor Tsuei conducted the test. She asked the examinee to form a circle (O-ring) of one’s habitually used hand by touching the tips of the thumb and the index finger. Then, Professor Tsuei inserted her index and middle fingers of both hands into the examinee’s O-ring and pulled it outward from both sides, trying to open it. For example, Professor Tsuei asked the examinee to say “I’m sitting,” and if the examinee were actually sitting at the moment (what one said is true), then the O-ring will not be pulled open; but if one were not sitting when he/she said he does (what one said is false), then the O-ring can be pulled open easily. You can test a hundred times without failing it. Afterward, Professor Tsuei selected the “right” flower essence for the examinee from those five different prescriptions by using the same method—if it wasn’t the right one, the O-ring would be pulled open easily. When the right one was picked, the muscle force came back immediately and the O-ring would not be pulled open. The results from the O-ring test matched perfectly with the previous EDSD test.

“What they need most right now is to go somewhere else, relax and take some rest. Are there any arrangements of that sort?” Professor Xia asked. “After what happened to Dong Yu-Fei, our organization department had arranged many activities of that sort. They now get more care and rest than before,” I answered. But then again, I thought, since they’re still in serious condition, maybe what has been done was just not enough!

“The high energy level they’re presenting is actually false. It won’t last long. The reconstruction work is, nevertheless, a long journey. The vast majority of these people are still in the first stage of what we just mentioned. That is, they haven’t revived from the shock of the disaster yet. That is why they’re like a bowstring that is stretched too tightly. Once it cracks, you’ll never know what’s going to happen,” Professor Tsuei said worriedly.

“What can they do in order to come out of these negative emotions as fast as possible?” I asked.

“Emotions must be unleashed. It is only when the balance of body-mind-soul is retrieved that one can find their own life force. The flower essence we gave them today is for that purpose. When negative emotions such as shock, grief, fear and loss are all eliminated from our body, the energy that arises thereafter is the real thing and represents the real life force. It is a tremendous force! It is the force that reconstruction work needs.” Her voice was trembling with heartfelt emotions when she spoke. You can see she’s impassioned and, when I listened to her, I too also felt a great sense of enthusiasm and my heart seethed with excitement.

On the morning of February 26, Professor Tsuei came from Chen-Du again, specifically for her appointment with the young fellow, Mr. C., in Bei-Chuan. As we all had witnessed how magical flower essence therapy is, my colleague, a colleague of Mr. C. and myself, all requested that Professor Tsuei make a special effort to send a “flower message” to Mr. C., which Professor Tsuei agreed to joyfully.

However, we arrived in Bei-Chuan eagerly to meet him, only to find that Mr. C. couldn’t keep his promise. We were told that Mr. C. took a new job assigned by the organization department. The job was more challenging, in the hope that it could provoke and inspire him to regain his vitality in life and feel valuable. Mr. C. liked his new job, said his colleague, and is more optimistic and communicative. It’s because of work that keeps him from coming. Before this, Mr. C. had been absent from work due to his ill situation. Maybe the change in work could bring beneficial effects to his mental state? It couldn’t be better if that’s how it is. However, we still felt that it was a pity that he was not able to connect with Professor Tsuei and her flower essence.

With the company of Hua-Ming Luo, who is the Vice Chairman of People’s PCC and the head of United Front Work Department of Bei-Chuan County, Professor Tsuei and her team went to the county town of Bei-Chuan, San-Dao-Guai. She and Professor Xia, representing the whole team, presented two bouquets of lilies to the victims of the Earthquake. As the wind blew over her face, there were tears in her eyes.

Vice Chairman Luo and his several colleagues were survivors of this disaster. Luo was the only one alive on the day of the Earthquake among the four comrades of the people’s PCC department, and a pin is still in his kneecap, which cannot be removed until the anniversary of the Earthquake. His colleague Ms. Lee, presently the deputy head of the United Front Work Department, had also gone through a roller-coaster-like sorrow and ecstasy. Her husband was one of the three survivors who were buried beneath the rubble of collapsed government buildings and rescued by Shen-Yang rescue crews with DKL on May 15th. When Mr. Luo told Professor Tsuei about the situations of his colleagues who were “gone,” he choked and sobbed in the middle. And, Ms. Lee also couldn’t help but have tears running down her cheeks, when mention was made of the phone call she got confirming her husband’s rescue.

In a small diner in An-Chang, with whatever was available, Professor Tsuei took out her equipment, and conducted a flower essence test for these four escorts from Bei-Chuan. After they got the flower fairy’s delicacies, vice chairman Luo pointed to a bumpy roadway that was under construction and told Professor Tsuei, “Next time when you come to Bei-Chuan, it won’t be like this for sure!” Professor Tsuei said, “I believe so, the reconstruction of Bei-Chuan will be just fine.” I stood beside them and thought, “What he also meant was the mentality of the people as well.”

Professor Tsuei was still concerned about not meeting Mr. C. To make up for this regret, she left behind a set of five flower essence bottles, and asked me to use the O-ring test and select the right prescription for Mr. C. I pleasantly took the assignment, and was more than happy to be a messenger on the road toward the source where petals fall in riotous profusion.

On parting, fairy Tsuei specifically presented me a gift, a passport to her kingdom of flower—the book she wrote, “The Power of Flower Essence Therapy.” Here, I would like to borrow the heading she used in her preface— “Going Upward Through Flower” as a blessing for Mr. C., wishing him to follow the path, which is full of wonder and fragrance of flower, to reach body-mind-soul balancing. Also, wishing he can get rid of the haze, and walk towards a whole new world of blossoms, and regain that vitality which belongs to him in the first place.
