Definition: Star Thistle addresses the capacity for generosity and sharing in the human soul. It is particularly indicated for “fear of lack,” or the feeling that there is not enough. Such persons are malnourished at a deep level. There is often a disturbance in the bond with the mother, which is transferred as an unhealthy bond to matter (the Latin word mater means mother). Such persons seek to establish a matrix of security for the essential Self by gaining firm hold of the material world, with a tendency to hoard and carefully guard their material possessions. This state of consciousness can be present whether the individual is outwardly wealthy or poor. The Star Thistle type is often socially reclusive or antipathetic, having a difficult time learning to trust, or to share his/her Self or resources in an open, generous way. They are susceptible to premature physical aging, especially hardening or sclerotic diseases or disturbances in the liver. Despite possible wealth or status, such persons are often lonely at their deepest core, and feel profoundly unnourished and unfulfilled. Star Thistle helps such souls to feel more secure within themselves and therefore less dependent on external things. As the soul feels fuller, it learns to open itself, and to share and give more freely. The Star Thistle teaches that it is through giving that one finds inner nourishment, and through the sharing of the Self that one becomes richer and more abundantly “full”-filled.
